Smoke & Mirrors Life Presents:
The Return of
Skirts and Skins
Skirts and Skins is back in Los Angeles and ready to start some rumors.
This is the official return of Skirts and Skins on
Tuesday August 25
9 PM – 2 AM
Skirts and Skins is an event focused on bringing unique talent every month into our friendly home at the Mountain Bar in Los Angeles. There are now 2 rooms of doom with the newly renovated upstairs area. Past gusts at the Mountain Bar have included: Tim Sweeny, Holy Ghost, Jacque Renault, and Hercules & the Love Affair, to name a few. The location of the venue is in the original General Lee’s in Chinatown next to the famous Pagoda that the Ratpack used to hang out at in the past. Skirts and Skins wants to honor the history of Chinatown by bringing Los Angeles some things that they have not yet encountered.

Come join us as we party inside our own gothic wonderland. We will be knocking the walls off of Royal Clayton’s with booty jams, gangster rap, and steamy slow jams. This month we are welcoming our friend, Ro Blvd. Ro has been making noise lately with his latest release with U.N.I. (A Love Supreme). He has been featured in XXL, on Power 106, and 93.5 recently so please be ready to thump. Also, our monthly residents RDNP (Greater Than), Special Guest DJ’s (The Disco Vietnam) and DJ Snooze Patrol (Grand Array) will be wetting the dancefloor with their smooth musical voyages. Drinks are super cheap, people are way too attractive, and the decor is way too epic. Come early, come all, and most importantly come lose your mind this Saturday.

This past Sunday was a huge success! We at Smoke & Mirrors Life would like to thank everyone who attended. There were over 350 bicyclists traveling through Los Angeles on this mystery ride. We traveled from Orange 20 in Silverlake, to Origami Records in Echo Park, to Archrival in Little Tokyo, to Blends LA in Downtown, then finally to the secret after party in the Industrial district. Throughout the whole trip we were entertained by performances by The Headhunters and giveaways courtesy of GRN Apple Tree. We felt like the communities of Los Angeles all came together to enjoy this beautiful Sunday afternoon. The Catch Me If You Can Mystery Bike Ride – benefitted the Pablove Foundation, a great cause that aids in the contribution to cancer research and treatment at CHLA’s Saban Research Institute, one of the top cancer research facilities in the United States. Raffle tickets were sold throughout the entire race (thanks to the help of the talented and beautiful Hannah Stouffer) with all proceeds going directly to the charity. A brand new Waterford frame set and other prizes were given away to a lucky few, but everyone was truly a winner. Thank you to everyone who came and participated in this event. Your action and support of this foundation truly set a tone in the Los Angeles Bike community. Thank you all so much. Your care and devotion made this event possible. It is good to know that a little mystery and fun are still important!
The secret after party also went off with the help of GRN Apple Tree, Filter Magazine, The Disco Vietnam, Asahi Beer, Colt 45, Honest Tea, LBC Sprints, Enjoy Human, Monster, and of course Kinfolk. Our friends the No Msg, Jacob Safari (The Mae Shi), the Intricate Machines, Kissing Tigers, and Daedelus all had our enthusiastic crowd dancing and having a great time. Please support these artists as they truly care about giving back to something greater.
Photos from the bicycle ride will be up here soon along with a new video from our friends at Enjoy Human. For now you can check out the photobooth pictures at: www.thediscovietnam.com.
Lastly, I would like to thank Kinfolk for everything. This amazing bike company wanted an event that Los Angeles would remember and were the perfect partner in this equation.
Please stay tuned!

About the Pablove Foundation:
The Pablove Foundation is named after Pablo Castelaz, the son of Dangerbird Records co-founder Jeff Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill. On May 17, 2008, Pablo was diagnosed with bilateral Wilms’ Tumor, a rare form of children’s cancer. The cancer appeared out of nowhere, with no warning signs in Pablo’s general demeanor or health. He underwent treatment at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. On June 27, 2009, Pablo’s individual fight with cancer ended. But we fight on in his name, with the spirit of love that Pablo embodied and inspired. Specifically, the Pablove Foundation makes an annual contribution to cancer research and treatment at CHLA’s Saban Research Institute, one of the top cancer research facilities in the United States. It also supports play activities, music and arts programs, and sponsors play rooms in the soft tumor units at CHLA. These ‘units’ are actually entire floors of the hospital, which are filled with brave, beautiful children at any time of the year. A strolling minstrel, a board game, a book, or an art easel bring such joy to the heart of a child whose life has been temporarily reduced to a small hospital room. For more info please visit
